Indigenous Energy is a renewable fuels and energy consulting firm that partners with stakeholders to promote and advance the use of biodiesel and other sustainable alternative fuels, energies, and technologies.
We are at the forefront of biofuel research and implementation strategies, partnering with organizations to educate fleets, policymakers, stakeholders, and consumers on the benefits of using products such as biomass-based diesel fuels as a cost-effective solution for lowering emissions and combating climate change in existing medium- and heavy-duty diesel vehicles.
Our History
Pete Probst is President and co-founder of Indigenous Energy. Pete has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was part of the UIC Society of Automotive Engineering team that won first place in the Ethanol Vehicle Challenge for building an E85 platform for the Chevy Silverado.
Later Pete converted a 1979 Mercedes Benz to run on used cooking oil and biodiesel. The Mercedes allowed Pete to get his hands very dirty while learning about diesel engines, cooking oil collection and small-scale biodiesel production. The car was also a terrific tool to show others the possibilities that exist with renewable fuels and could often be seen at renewable energy fairs, schools and workshops.
Today Pete continues working to advance low carbon technologies with Indigenous Energy. The Mercedes passed on and now Pete drives a diesel Chevrolet Silverado and a Turbodiesel Volkswagon.
